After John was diagnosed with prostate cancer, Macmillan stepped in to support him from their base at the Hospice. Through this partnership, John was then able to be easily referred to other supportive services at Dr Kershaw’s.

After John’s cancer diagnosis, he found Macmillan to be very helpful and supportive. Being able to access this service at the Hospice locally made it much easier for John to get support. The link between Macmillan and the Hospice has also meant that John has been referred to Dr Kershaw’s Wellbeing Centre accessing vital peer support from the Men’s Group…
“After I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, Macmillan were so helpful and supportive. The team helped me to access free parking, a card to easily access toilets irrespective of where I was and whenever I had to see a consultant a Macmillan nurse was always there.
The team didn’t just stop with their support for me, but also provided support for my family as well, not just looking at me as an individual but everyone who is affected by the cancer diagnosis.
Travelling to the Hospice, there’s no additional worries about parking and it’s a much warmer environment than a hospital.
Having the Macmillan Team at the Hospice has been brilliant and meant it has been easier for me to access their services and to then be referred to the Men’s Group in the Hospice’s Wellbeing Centre as they are working so closely together, it’s the perfect partnership! I know if I ever need support from the Macmillan Team I can go and see them easily at the Hospice, they are so knowledgeable, are always there to help and provide practical advice and information.”
