Chemo Closer to Home

Chemo Closer to Home delivered by specialist SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment) nurses from The Christie enables patients living in or near Oldham the opportunity to access chemotherapy treatment and blood tests locally, rather than attending The Christie in Didsbury.

Chemo Closer to Home services

Chemo Closer to Home offers selected chemotherapy treatments to patients, every Monday and Friday in the Hospice’s Wellbeing Centre. The Christie also offer routine blood tests at Dr Kershaw’s every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments) Closer to Home

After a patient’s second treatment at The Christie they then have the option of attending a location closer to home such as Dr Kershaw’s Hospice for convenience. Dedicated nurses from The Christie visit Dr Kershaw’s Hospice twice a week to support patients who previously had to travel long distances for their chemotherapy treatments at The Christie.

If you would like to know more about having your chemotherapy treatments at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice please speak to your doctor or the Nursing Team at The Christie. Alternatively, please contact The Christie SACT Outreach Team on 0161 918 7107.

Bloods Closer to Home

Blood test clinics (phlebotomy clinics) benefit patients who previously had to travel long distances for routine blood tests at The Christie. The Christie nurse at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice will be able to access ports, CVC and PICC lines.

Your blood sample will be transported back to The Christie so that the results are available to the Medical Team involved in your care.

For more information, please contact The Christie’s Bloods Closer to Home Team on 0161 918 7654, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

Chemo Closer to Home made all the difference. Chemotherapy would take 3-4 hours at Dr Kershaw’s including travel, instead of all day.
