Bereavement Support

Our Bereavement Support Team
Our Bereavement Support Team provide one-to-one supportive calls to families following the death of a loved one offering warmth, comfort and practical advice. They also run our Bereavement Support Group and our Wellbeing Walks which offer a space to understand and normalise feelings, form friendships with other bereaved people, and access therapeutic support during challenging times.

Bereavement Support Group
Our Bereavement Support Group, held in the Hospice and delivered by our Counselling Team, is an opportunity to get together with others who may have been through similar experiences, to offer and receive peer support, form connections with other bereaved people, and access emotional and psychological therapeutic care in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The group provides a mixture of facilitated time and space for understanding and normalising grief and loss, and sharing your individual experience. Please email drkh.bereavement@nhs.net or call 0161 624 2727 to enquire about a self-referral for our next group. Groups typically run fortnightly from the end of Autumn through to Spring. A referral is essential for this group.

Wellbeing Walks
Our monthly Wellbeing Walks promote overall wellbeing for those affected by loss and offer a space for conversations and connections, as well as silence and solitude. Our walks are at a gentle pace, and take place at a different park each month, providing those who take part with the chance to get out and about for some gentle exercise, and receive the benefits of connecting with nature in and around the Oldham area. After the walk we invite people to stay for a tea or coffee in the park café. Our Wellbeing Walks take place mostly on the last Friday of each month, meeting at 10.45am with the approximate 1-hour walk starting promptly at 11am. Please check our social media channels or email the Wellbeing Centre Team on: drkh.wellbeing@nhs.net for our next Wellbeing Walk. No booking needed, just turn up.

The Hospice’s Bereavement Support Group gave me a place to go at the loneliest of times.
