Course Details
A comprehensive training session, surrounding a wide variety of skills related to all elements of tracheostomy care. The course is inclusive of a range of clinical skills including:
- Tracheostomy dressings
- Stoma care
- Inner cannula management
- Humidification
- Methods of tracheostomy tube insertion
- Tracheostomy tube types
- Managing emergency situations
- Essential equipment
Theoretical knowledge is discussed in a participatory and interactive manner, to focus on embedding best practice. Practical skills are then taught and practised on our state-of-the-art, skills simulation mannequin to instil confidence in personal ability within the safety of the classroom.
Who is This Course for?
All trained nurses wanting to improve or refresh their knowledge, skills and competence in caring for and managing tracheostomies.
What Will the Course Cover?
The anatomy and physiology of the lungs and respiratory tract, in relation to the mechanisms of breathing and the considerations for individual patient management.
Pre-Course Requirements
Experience of caring for patients with tracheostomies is desirable but not essential.
How Will the Course be Taught?
Face-to-face delivery in a group, involving some group work or work in pairs, utilising our state-of-the-art simulation mannequin to demonstrate and practise clinical skills.
