Course Details
A participatory and comprehensive training session, which explores the anatomy and physiology of the bowel and the different surgeries performed for stoma formation. Hands-on stoma care, troubleshooting, bag selection and reference to medications are all covered within the theoretical summary.
Clinical skills will be enhanced via demonstrations followed by the ability to practise new found skills on our state-of-the-art, skills simulation mannequin to instil confidence in personal ability within the safety of the classroom.
Who is This Course for?
All healthcare professionals wanting to increase their knowledge and clinical skills in caring for patients with a stoma.
What Will the Course Cover?
- The anatomy and physiology of the bowel and the different variations of stomas
- Gastro-Intestinal Surgeries performed to form stomas
- Problem solving within the day-to-day management of stomas
Pre-Course Requirements
Some experience / exposure to patients requiring stoma care is desirable but not essential.
How Will the Course be Taught?
Face-to-face delivery in a group, involving some group work or work in pairs, utilising our state-of-the-art simulation mannequin to demonstrate and practise clinical skills.
