Course Details
A comprehensive and practical training session exploring the benefits and risks associated with gastric drainage. Following the course you will have:
- The ability to discuss the rationale for appropriate insertion of naso-gastric tubes for drainage purposes
- The ability to assess a patient’s suitability for a NG tube
- The ability to record the NEX measurement
- The ability to insert the NG tube effectively, confirm its position and secure it in place
- The knowledge to adequately care for the tube remaining mindful of pressure area care, drainage bag positioning and pH monitoring
Practical demonstration and the ability to practise on our state-of-the-art, skills simulation mannequin to instil confidence in personal ability within the safety of the classroom is incorporated throughout the duration of the course.

Pre-Course Requirements
Experience/exposure to patients who do or may require gastric drainage.
How Will the Course be Taught?
Face-to-face delivery in a group, involving some group work or work in pairs, utilising our state-of-the-art simulation mannequin to demonstrate and practise clinical skills.
