Take on one of the most unique and scenic walks in England, with our 8-mile trek across the beautiful sands of Morecambe Bay!

On Sunday 8th June 2025, join us for one of the most unique and scenic walks in England with our 8-mile trek across the beautiful sands of Morecambe Bay!
Our Morecambe Bay Walk challenge will see those who take part being guided by Michael Wilson, the official King’s Guide, over Sands Trust, from Arnside to Grange-over-Sands.
The iconic Morecambe Bay Sands is a stretch of sand and sea that spans 10 miles along the Lancashire coast. The sponsored walk is ideal for walking groups, families, dog walkers and previous participants of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice-to-Hospice Walk. Fundraisers will receive a Dr Kershaw’s T-shirt and a certificate on completion!

- A sun hat and sunglasses
- Sun cream – because sand, sun and sea can be a fierce combination
- Breathable lightweight clothing, waterproof layers and a few extra layers if you feel the cold but also to protect from the sun. If possible shorts or trousers that roll up.
- Refreshments – sandwich, snacks, water
- Your personal medication
- A charged mobile phone
- A towel for when you have achieved this iconic walk in beautiful surroundings.
First and foremost you should be able to walk up to 9 miles.
The walk is on varied terrain including sections of sand, shingle, pebbles, rock and salt marsh. This challenging walk takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete, covering a distance of 6-9 miles depending on the route – which is confirmed on the day.
Parts of the walk may be challenging. Changeable weather and a varying terrain will be encountered.
Underfoot, Arnside to the shore includes sand, footpaths, lanes and marshland. The bulk of the crossing is flat sand often rippled and sometimes covered in water. Halfway across you will navigate the Kent River where you can expect an average depth of up to 2ft (60cm) for a distance of some 50m. The final leg of the walk is over marsh, this is a clear pathway but may sometimes be slippery.
Please ensure that all those under 18 taking part in the walk are supervised by an adult at all times.
Yes, your dog is welcome to join us at £1 each which is payable to our Guide on the day. Don’t forget your poo bags!
Morecambe Bay Walk 2024
Our first ever Morecambe Bay Walk was just incredible seeing the King’s Guide lead over 100 of our walkers across the bay. Our supporters had a wonderful day, especially the furry four-legged ones.
Dr Kershaw’s Morecambe Bay Walk 2024 raised over £11,000 to support patient care!
We are truly grateful to everyone who took part!
