Leave a gift in your Will

Planning for the future is one of the most meaningful ways to support the causes close to your heart. By leaving a gift in your Will to our Hospice, you can help ensure we continue to provide vital care and support to those who need us most.

Writing a Will is also a thoughtful way to protect your loved ones and make a lasting difference in your local community, ensuring your possessions and property go to the right place and the family you leave behind are looked after.

Dr Kershaw’s joins national gifts in Wills campaign

We are proud to be one of 143 hospices taking part in the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign, a national initiative facilitated by Hospice UK. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the vital role hospices play in communities, encouraging people to consider leaving a gift in their Will to support their local hospice, ensuring that these essential services can continue to provide compassionate and specialist care for future generations.

Remembering Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in your Will

Leaving a gift in your Will is a wonderful way to help continue the vital work that Dr Kershaw’s does for people in our community.

Even a small gift in your Will can have a big impact on the future of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. We understand that your family and friends come first, but leaving just 1% of your estate to us can help ensure we continue to provide exceptional care and support to our community for years to come. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a lasting difference.

When making your Will, please consider including Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. With just our charity name and registered number, it’s quick and easy to leave a lasting legacy that supports our vital work.

Tax benefits to leaving a gift in your Will

Including the Hospice in your Will can provide significant tax benefits. Inheritance Tax applies if a person’s estate (property, money, and possessions) is worth more than £325,000 at the time of their death. This is known as the ‘Inheritance Tax threshold.’ The standard Inheritance Tax rate is 40% on anything above this threshold.

A gift to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice would be completely exempt from Inheritance Tax. Additionally, leaving 10% or more of the net value of an estate to charity can reduce the tax rate payable on the remainder of the estate from 40% to 36%.

If you believe your estate may be subject to Inheritance Tax and wish to reduce its impact, it’s advisable to consult a solicitor, accountant, or independent financial adviser, you can also visit the government’s website on Inheritance Tax .

Frequently Asked Questions

Find out more about how you can leave a gift in your Will to Dr Kershaw's Hospice…

There are three main types of gifts, known as legacies, that you can leave to support us:

  1. Residuary Legacy: A percentage of your estate after any debts are settled and your loved ones are provided for.
  2. Pecuniary Legacy: A specific sum of money left in your Will.
  3. Specific Legacy: A particular item, such as a piece of property or jewelry, gifted to us.

When our dear friend Joan asked us to be the executors of her Will, we were nervous but honoured that Joan chose us. Though it hasn’t always been easy, Joan made her wishes clear—especially her desire to leave the bulk of her estate to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. She’d supported them for years and was deeply moved by the care they provided, particularly when her son spent his last days there. It was her wish to reward the Hospice for their incredible work, and we’re proud to help carry out her legacy.
