Living with a life-limiting or serious illness can be a lonely experience, which is why The Nightbird Project unites people for a series of free creative sessions.
Living with a life-limiting or serious illness can be a lonely experience, which is why The Nightbird Project unites people for a series of free creative sessions.
Our 2025 programme kicked off on Saturday 8th March. So far our group have enjoyed a range of activities, including acrylic squeegee painting, writing a poem, and creating this year’s The Nightbird Project playlist.
What is The Nightbird Project?
Held at our bright and spacious Wellbeing Centre, The Nightbird Project is a programme of therapeutic workshops that are designed to help adults share their stories and capture new memories.
Each of the fortnightly Saturday sessions is supported by Jenny Gaskell, a community artist whose work explores connection and grief. Previous sessions have explored poetry, natural materials, painting, origami and even relaxing spa treatments.
Feedback has been fantastic, with participants describing the project as “calming and relaxing,” and “friendly, colourful and bright”. One person added: “It makes you want to do more creative things.”

Everyone is Welcome
Our Senior Counsellor, Lisa Hoctor, said: “We welcome a diversity of life experiences, ages, diagnoses and ethnicities.”
“This celebratory, creative project invites you to share your stories and build meaningful relationships. As a group, we’ll support your wellbeing and resilience while creating joyful art about your life.”
