Dr Kershaw’s Hospice welcomes five new Trustees

Five new Trustees have joined Dr Kershaw’s Hospice to further support the provision of palliative and end-of-life care within the Oldham community.

Trustees have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, a charity’s management and administration. All of Dr Kershaw’s’ Trustees are unpaid and freely give their time. They ensure that the Hospice complies with the law and manages its resources responsibly.

The newest members bring a wealth of experience across the healthcare, business and technology sectors.

Nicola Nicholls, a former Associate Director of Nursing and Governance, has 41 years of experience within the NHS.

Matt Fleming, Director of IT at FourSynergy Group, returned from California to the UK to help achieve business growth through technology, people and processes.

Kathryn Taylor, a Locum Nurse Practitioner at Woodlands Medical Practice, has held commissioning roles in the Oldham health economy during her 40-year career.

Two Trustees also have personal connections to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

Julie Hesselgrove Ward is the former Senior Vice President of Xerox and has volunteered on the Hospice’s reception and as its mascot, Hartley, since 2021.

Daryl Kitchener is a Divisional Clinical Governance Manager for the NHS and was inspired to become a Trustee after his grandmother received end-of-life care in Dr Kershaw’s’ Inpatient Unit.

Adele Doherty, Hospice CEO said: “As a charity, it is important that we are held accountable. We are confident that our new Trustees will enable us to continue to provide first-class care. The number of people needing our services is increasing. As we are only one-third funded by the NHS, we are always looking for new ways to improve our hospice to help our community. We look forward to implementing our Trustees’ advice to help patients and their families when they need us the most.”
